Educational and Clinical Supervisors are central to the success of the Fellowship. Their role extends beyond overseeing progression through the curriculum; they help create an environment in which fellows can develop confidence, clinical judgement, reflective practice and professional identity within supportive oncology.
Because fellows enter the programme from a range of specialties and professional backgrounds, supervision is intentionally flexible. Rather than following a single pathway, supervisors are encouraged to help each fellow identify their individual learning needs and tailor opportunities that support their development throughout the year.
The Fellowship is founded on the principle that education is most effective when it is supportive, collaborative and developmental. Assessment and portfolio evidence are therefore intended to facilitate meaningful feedback and reflection, rather than simply demonstrate completion of training.
The Fellowship recognises the complementary roles of Educational and Clinical Supervisors. Educational Supervisors provide oversight of the fellow's overall educational journey, helping to establish learning objectives, review progress and support professional development throughout the Fellowship. Clinical Supervisors provide day-to-day supervision within individual clinical settings, helping fellows develop practical skills through observation, discussion and feedback during routine clinical practice.
In some centres these responsibilities may be undertaken by the same individual, while in others they are shared across different members of the multidisciplinary team.

Together, these resources aim to promote a consistent, supportive and educationally robust experience for fellows across all training centres.
